Feeling better - making contact

It’s been a crazy couple of weeks - even without last weeks frustrating news. The first thing I want to tell anyone reading this is that our paperwork problem has absolutely nothing to do with what you’ve been seeing on the news or reading in the papers about Guatemala adoptions. I addressed this a bit in another post, and might do so again because I’ve been asked about it at least once a day for the past 2 weeks. The good news on that front is that all of the key players involved are now publicly stating their intentions to finish processing existing cases - that would include us and many of our dear friends. Let me tell you this is a big stress reliever.

As for those friends - we met some of our newest friends in NYC this past weekend and had a great time wandering around a relatively sparse Coney Island. None of us had ever been there before and about half way between our homes (maybe a little closer to us). They are adopting an adorable little guy named Anthony. Hanging with them was also a big stress reliever, it’s so good to be able to connect with people experiencing such similar ups and downs.

Of course, when at Coney Island, one must partake of the famous Coney Dog at Nathan’s. So it turned out to be a little bit of a foodie weekend as well. The dogs were delicious - great flavor, tasty sauce, onions, cheese sauce. They didn’t have that “snap” that I always hear about, and the roll was a bit soggy, but the a great dog anyway. Was it the best hot dog I’ve ever had? That’s hard to say, I don’t recall ever paying such close attention to any other dog.

Our third package for CJ was sent off to a cool family in Indiana who are going to pick up their little Ana in a couple of weeks. We’re sending quite a variety this time. A cute outfit (purchases on sale of course), a board book ¿Eres mi mamá? (Are you my Mother?), a onesy, new cameras, and a couple of little things that we meant to leave with N after our visit trip. Also some pens and notepads for the kids, and some lotion for Carmensita’s foster mommy. We’re still hoping and praying we don’t have time to arrange to send another package - you never know!

It’s amazing how much you can fit in a gallon ziplock back if you’re motivated.

  1. I love Nathan’s. Did you try the chili dog?

  2. Oh yah, it was chili sauce all right! The funny thing is that a HS buddy of mine worked at a Nathan’s at one of those hiway rest stop plazas. The hot dogs were terrible, nothing like the original location.

  3. [...] food blogged in a while now. Most recently, I whined about the new Blueberry Morning, and reviewed Nathan’s Coney Dogs. But not much real foodie posting [...]
