A blog friend, and fellow Meebo user - Sherri - has tagged me. This is a fairly straightforward tagging. The only problem is the number 8. That’s a lot of random things and a lot of people to tag. There are a couple of really cool people who blog that I’m not sure are totally public, so bear with me as I wait for permission to tag them. You might not see 8 blogs a the end of this right away - we’ll see.
Rules: Once tagged, you must link to the person who tagged you. Then post the rules before your list, and list 8 random things about yourself. At the end of the post, you must tag and link to 8 other people, visit their sites, and leave a comment letting them know they’ve been tagged. Here it goes…
1) I hate mushrooms. Almost an aversion - they texture, taste, smell gross me out. Sometimes, I can suffer through them just because I have a strong food stomach. The concept is also a little strange. Anyone who’s spent a lot of time in Southern Chester County, PA will understand. Hmm. Not sure how random this is as most people who know me know about this. But the funniest part of this is I love all kinds of other weird things like cow’s tongue, sweet breads, and sushi. Go figure.
2) I coined the phrase “French Toast Factory” as a potential restaurant name. I love making and eating French Toast, and one of my all time favorite sandwiches is the Monte Cristo. If M and I ever opened a restaurant, we’d include several variations. Unfortunately, some other schmucks bought the old Akron Restaurant and started using this name. I figured they just beat me to it, but when an out of town friend and I gave it a try we were extremely disappointed. They didn’t even have real maple syrup!!!
3) I love bands with female lead singers, particularly rock bands. There’s just something about the sound of a higher alto woman’s voice in front of those guitars and drums that sounds awesome to me. Part of it might be that more women can wale in tune than men (Chris Cornell not withstanding). Some of the best newer bands are Flyleaf, Evanescence, Fireflight, Lacuna Coil. As for all time greats, you gotta love the Cranberries, No Doubt, The Cardigans, The Sundays, Spice Girls (just kidding – are you paying attention?), Sixpence None the Richer, Eurythmics, Fleetwood Mac, Heart, Jefferson Airplane, Pretenders, Sugar Cubes. Any other favs out there?
4) M and I are major foodies, and I fear we sometimes come across as food snobs. OK, I’ll just go ahead and brag – there are a number of common dishes I make that are better than any I’ve ever had anywhere, including restaurants. I make the best chili, salsa, French toast, Thanksgiving (turkey, stuffing, mashed taters), potato skins, and a few less common dishes. I’m pretty close to thinking I’ve got the pizza thing down, but not ready to declare mine as tops. As for the red head – she makes the absolute best apple pie, peanut butter pie, Moravian Sugar cake, chocolate chip cookies, chicken pot pie, grilled chicken (bone in of course), and gravy. I think we avoid the snob label by actively seeking out and truly enjoying other versions of these foods. It’s interesting to see the many ways people prepare supposedly standard recipes.
5) I still have dreams (nightmares?) about franticly trying to complete homework and research papers. Yes, I was the stereo typical college student who sometimes procrastinated and spend all night in the library or on the computer. As much as I love learning, I just didn’t like being a student, and college was quite difficult.
6) One of my greatest regrets in life is not focusing on a single sport or two while young. I played a ton of baseball (and was pretty good) up until I was about 14, making basketball my secondary sport (which I was never great at). I started playing tons of volleyball as a senior and almost made the college team at Millersville. Volleyball remains my favorite sport to play now. What I really should have done was to take up track, but is just seemed so boring at the time.
7) Some of you know this, but I started off college as a Meteorology major. In fact, the main reason I went to Millersville was because it was the only such a program that I could afford (even with scholarship offers from Rutgers). So, how did I end up with a Geography degree? Simple – I just couldn’t handle the physics and math. I barely made a C in Calc III and almost failed Linear Algebra. Then Atmospheric Thermodynamics II literally made my brain explode. Turns out that part of my love for weather involved my love for maps.
If I ever found myself in a position to make a major career shift, I’d go to law school.

#4 makes me hungry.
As for #5, I’m with ya. I still have anxiety dreams where I can’t remember my high school locker combination and can’t get to the books or papers therein. Strangely, I don’t have college anxiety dreams. College wasn’t nearly as stressful for me, although I don’t know why.
I like your list, and if you make the French Toast Factory happen, we (my fam) will totally come out there and partake of a Monte Cristo.

Interesting entry, number four is.
Interesting items you included, I see.
Interesting items you did not include, I declare.
xoxo me
As for #4, are any of these “best’ restaurants in the Cleveland area? I can’t seem to find anything edible that’s to die for.
However, for glazed donuts, you must try Stan’s Donuts in Santa Clara, CA.
Min - we’d be glad to have you - on the house! Unfortunately, other circumstances have delayed that particular dream!
Sie - very clever! Is that Haiku? I guess 3 and 4 are pretty subjective, but I know who makes the best 7 layer salad, corn cake, and cow’s tongue. (for those of you in the blogosphere, Sie and I have shared a LOT of meals together - but not tongue)
Tash - you know, I’ve never been to Cleveland or Santa Clara. Donuts are the Red-Head’s favorite and she’s very particular. But I can tell you that some of my favorite restaurants and best meals I’ve ever had are in places far far away. Check out Chowhound or Yelp - I guarantee you’ll find something tasty.
Sadly, I was trying for Yoda-ese. Guess I failed. You definitely need to include your wings. TO DIE FOR!!!!! How did you overlook those?
