Early Christmas

Happy Thanksgiving everyone - hope you all had a joyful time with family and friends. Thanksgiving is one of my favorites, not just because I love the food, but because the very name of the holiday makes you stop and think about why we’re celebrating in the first place. Even if the legends of it’s origin are not quite accurate, the point is that very early American’s had a rough go of it and deliberately took time to acknowledge their blessings and to share their bounty with others. I think it’s the sharing part that may be the key to understanding Thanksgiving.

So, I’ve got a few days off work, so we’re cooking, relaxing, hopefully getting some chores done in preparation for a potentially busy December. One fun idea the red-head and I are sharing this year is that we will both be gettinng Carmen a Christmas present, wrapping it, and not opening it till she comes home. No matter how long it takes, those 2 presents will remain wrapped secrets until CJ is able to open them herself (OK, with a little help maybe).

In the mean time, we’re sending our 4th package for her, and shipped that out yesterday to some new friends from Pittsburg who sent a package with us during our visit trip. It’s so cool to be making that kind of connection and that they were so eager to return the favor. They’re headed to Guatemala to pick up their son next week, and we could not be more excited for them! If you’re out there, O family, have a safe trip and let us know how it goes!

As it turns out, we had to use a quart size back for over-flow this time. We’re sending an outfit (including a “hoodie”), a couple of Christmas bibs, socks, and some toys. The coolest thing is probably the little clown thingie that smells of lavender. You’ll also notice a Christmas card (in Spanish with a note from us - thanks to H for helping to translate), and the wrapped items are a tiny nativity set - we just forgot to take a picture before wrapping - for N and her family. Oh yah - can’t forget about tootsie rolls and candy canes!

Here’s how it turned out all wrapped up - I could have jammed it all into a single bag - but I was afraid it would pop open this time!
