I don\\\’t really like tag lines much, so I\\\’m not using one. This is to show how wordpress cannot intepret apostrophes.

Friday update (ok I guess it’s Saturday now)

I don’t normally follow the blogging trend of regular Friday updates, but here it goes. Maybe I should start, eh?

I’ll start with why I haven’t been around much. We had a major major project at work that caused a few of us to be working tons of hours, many of them during my typical blogging and blog reading times of lunch and late evening. I’ve been so busy that I just barely finished my Christmas shopping Friday morning - at 6:30AM - DURING A BREAK from working. Ugh. But the labor is all over for now and I’ve got 11 straight days off.

No major legal updates on our case to report, which isn’t really a bad thing considering that we’re waiting for approval that typically takes about 8 weeks. So, we’re not sure if we want to hear anything until the 8 weeks has passed. We’re not predicting anything though, just hopeful we can bring Carmen home soon. As predicted, December is flying by, and we’re going to spend some of this coming week organizing and preparing.

We did receive a medical report (no pics yet though) - CJ is fit as a fiddle, and weighs a whopping 20lbs 12ozs, as of a week before her 8 month birthday - which was yesterday. That’s 97 percentile territory!!! She’s also starting to crawl, which is awesome. Her foster mama, N, is such an amazing mama.

There is also news on the future of Guatemalan adoptions. Their legislature approved a new law that creates a central authority to govern adoptions. It does include a grandfather clause that allows in-process cases to proceed under the current system. This is good news for many nervous families, although our agency had expressed confidence it would turn out this way.

I won’t provide too much commentary right now, because the so-called “experts” don’t seem to know for sure how the actual process will play out. There are a lot of great things about the current Guatemalan adoption process, but there are also some aspects that allow for corruption. The corruption needs to stop, and it appears that the new law will go a long way to doing so. While it looks as though adoptions will remain open, it will take some time to determine if its the best thing for Guatemala. There are too many process details not included in the new law to describe how it will really work.

I’ve got a lot of blog reading to do as well, some of my on-line pals have mostly good news to share and I’ve glanced at your sites to see the basics and will go back and check in on everyone. With any luck, I’ll be online plenty next week and post some Christmas thoughts as well. It’s obviously a little sad that Carmen won’t spend her first Christmas at home with us, but it’s also very special that she is able to spend it in her homeland with her family there. I’m sure N will have Christmas stories, pictures, and traditions to pass on that we can share with CJ about their time together.

  1. Loved the last two sentences…what a great perspective. It will be so special for her to know someday that she gets to spend all of her future Christmases with you two, but her first one was spent with N in her homeland as you lovingly waited for her.

Christmas blessings to you and the redhead. Talk to you soon…

  2. Good to read that Carmen is fit and healthy! I love news like that.
