I’ve pretty much got the book Let’s Make Pizza memorized. At least I can read it upside down, which when reading to a not quite one year old make this technique a necessity. Not sure exactly why she’s taken to this particular book, but she particularly loves the page where Shari sprinkles on the cheese. The little girl in the book smiles as cute as can be on that page, so maybe that’s what draws CJ’s interest? I dunno.

Actually, I collect children’s books about Pizza. I’ve got several of them, including my absolute favorite (and my nephew’s) Sam’s Pizza - which has all kinds of pop up images with pizza toppings - totally cool. Just recently, a dear friend sent Pete’s a Pizza - a great book that contains the greatest line in children’s book history - “PETE CAN’T ANSWER BECAUSE HE’S ONLY SOME DOUGH AND STUFF.”
A few more tidbits from the last week or so.
We took our first outing - an early and brief one to an “outgrown sale” with Aunt S-ie to stock up on cheap barely used cloths and a few toys. It was good to get out of the house with the little dumpling and it went pretty darn well. We even ran into a new friend of ours who also adopted from Guatemala not too long ago, although little K didn’t make the trip, so I didn’t get to meet him. I had Carmen in the snuggly again, and she fell asleep again, just as she did the other day while vacuuming!
At the sale, we received our first out of the blue comment - but this was a good one. A lady made a point to look at sleeping little CJ, then look me right in the eye and say - “your daughter is absolutely beautiful.” I didn’t argue with her.
This picture gives you a good look at Carmen’s hair. Still wondering if it’ll straighten as it continues to grow, or what will happen.

We also received an e-mail from Carmen’s foster family - and what an awesome family, totally sweet and wanting to keep in touch. We’ll be sending some pictures down, as they have a computer and e-mail in their home now.
I’ve been pondering whether or not to share the link to this blog with them. It would be an easy way for them to receive updates and learn about Carmen life here in the States. Most of my family checks out the blog - so why shouldn’t Carmen’s foster family have the same ability? Would love to hear what all of you think or if anyone out there’s had experience with this.
Still not quite ready for church - probably another few weeks, and as our social worker, J, suggests it’ll be an arrive late leave early situation. Maybe we’ll take a stroll around the mall this weekend and grab a burger somewhere quick - just to get out and about - nothing too intense, but enough to stretch our legs so to speak.
Carmen continues to sleep pretty well, although some nap times have been rough. She’s still on the two naps a day plan, but one of them always seems to be much shorter, and sometimes a little rough in terms of getting to sleep or crying during some portion. It’s tough to hear her cry at all, let me tell you.
On a better note, things have improved with our pooch, and we’re certain the two will be best buddies going forward. Unfortunately, our cat, Ellie has been a bit sick lately, and will likely need medication - poor thing - I just hope the meds work.
Here’s a few more of Carmen’s favorite activities. Mommy and Daddy still try to find time to cook (although some friends and family have brought us some very tasty dinners to help out as well), and CJ doesn’t mind as long as we allow her to help out…

Note that Daddy hasn’t had time to read the Sunday newspaper in months and left it on the bathroom floor yesterday after finding a few moments alone to check out the sports page, thus Carmen discovered it today. Of course, CJ doesn’t use the bathroom yet - but she has pooped in the tub twice already!!! Don’t worry, no pictures of that.

Tub poop is a rite of passage. *grin*
She’s gorgeous. Truly.
As for letting the foster fam into your blog world, I guess you’re the best judge of whether or not you’d be comfortable with that. I haven’t shared my blog with the girls’ families for obvious reasons, but your situation is much different. CJ’s foster fam is awesome, right?!?! It would be a really cool idea, IMO…as a former foster mom myself, I think that would be an incredible blessing–six years later, I still wonder about how and where some of my former foster kids are. You have an opportunity to give them a rare gift that most foster families don’t have.
Hugs to your beautiful fam…
