I’m totally loving being a daddy right now because I’m really having to BE her daddy, meaning - she’s now at the point where she comes to me for hugs, giggles, comfort, reading a book, and yes - expressing her frustration.
She’s totally into helping - she helps put her books away, she helps empty the dishwasher, and even set the table. Yesterday - she actually carried the milk to the table. Instead of being a tall young toddler, I think she looks like a short 3 year old. I don’t know if it’s the cheesy smile, or the hair, or what.
Even at her advanced hight - she’s barely able to reach, but the jug made it onto the table - all ready to have our cereal!
Yah, she’s a real sweetie - but at just shy of 17 months old, things can change quickly! This is what happens when you refuse to “say” (via sign language) please to get your cup, and instead try to snatch it out of mommy’s hands. Red Head’s do not give in easier than toddlers.
What makes baby hot? A bit of Ha Si Kil Pac maybe?
You’ll notice continued kitchen area pictures - and this is what we were up to this weekend. I’m totally into these spicy flavorful citrus-ey dips. They usually contain some kinds of smooth base either made from beans (like hummus), or fruit (like guacamole), or in this case roasted pumpkin seeds.
I’m finding a lot of Latin American dishes use pumpkin seeds in various forms. Si Kil Pac is an ancient Mayan dish that sounds a little weird at first, but oh my this is my latest favorite food. I made a less spicy version considering the less brave among my family. Normally it’s made with habenero’s, and considering how easy it was, next time, there’ll be two batches and one will be more authentic.
On a completely different note - the Red Head is commonly known within her side of the family as “The Noodle Queen” - so it follows that we now are graced with the presence of the “Noodle Princess”.
Apparently, she likes salad with raspberry vinaigrette dressing as well!
A lot of folks ask how she gets along with the animals. Recent weeks have seen the tide turn there as she’s best buds with both our animals. Sadly, our youngest and previously healthy cat (Pebbles) was lost to cancer a few weeks ago. She had been fit as a fiddle, and in a short span developed a huge tumor. After a few attempts at medicine, it was clear any treatment was not going to go over well. She was kindof a loner, but CJ brought totally her out of her shell. In face, Carmen’s first noise in our house was to mimic Pebbles whiny meow, which has developed into her preferred “kitty noise”.
Of course, she also mimics the dog not by pretending to bark, but by pretending to pant, sneeze, and shake her head (kinda like a wet dog with floppy ears). Totally cute. Oh yah - she also tried to sit on the cat’s lap this weekend. Phew, not sure what the end result would have been, but luckily we caught her before we had to find out the hard way.
Here’s CJ helping mommy comfort Penny during a T-storm this morning. They’re buds now, nary a fur or ear pull in several weeks that I can recall.

Hey, I’ve been a little distracted and all but I had a crazy dream about you guys sometime last week involving a baby girl and photos and a scanner and when I woke, it occurred to me that surely you must have a baby girl by now. So I hunted around a bit and found you do!!! Congratulations! She’s beautiful.
BTW, I’m so glad they finally paved your road. Boy was that annoying for a while.
